How to Beat Shaytaan and Wake Up For Fajr

Dear MuslimKids,

Assalamualaikum!

I know, I know, it’s super hard to get out of the cocoon of your warm blanket when your parents are asking you over and over to get up and pray Fajr. Washing up first thing in the morning IS really, really hard, even for grown-ups!

But the most important thing is that we TRY because Allah (ﷻ) has promised us some really tempting rewards of praying Fajr.

For one, whoever prays Fajr is under the protection of Allah (ﷻ). The Prophet (ﷺ) told us himself!

Secondly, the Prophet (ﷺ) also told us that the two sunnahs before Fajr “are better than this world and all that it contains.”

I’ll be honest, this caught my attention. If the Prophet (ﷺ) says Fajr is better than a huge cone of ice-cream with sprinkles then it most definitely is.

So HOW can we get ourselves out of bed to be under Allah (ﷺ)’s protection and to have our share of something that’s better than the whole entire world?

Let’s think!

Set an alarm

I know this is an obvious one but even the most organized of us forget our alarms sometimes.

Not me, of course.

I’m great at remembering things.

Now where were we?

Oh yes, on to tip two!

Drink water before bed

How will that help, you ask?

What’s better than an alarm to get you out of bed?

A full bladder, of course!

This is how you trick your body into getting out of bed AND beat Shaytaan at the same time!

Make wudu before bed

This is a big one.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Purify these bodies and Allah will purify you, for there is no slave who goes to sleep in a state of purity but an Angel spends the night with him, and every time he turns over, the Angel says, ‘O Allah! Forgive Your slave, for he went to bed in a state of purity.’”

Now imagine if an angel is continuously asking Allah (ﷻ) to forgive you, won’t your soul be so full of light by Fajr time? Maybe you’ll even spring out of bed!

Sleep early

Most of you probably already do this but try to set a deadline for yourself when you turn off the flashlights under your blankets, put away your books, read your duas and go to sleep.

Set your intention

Niyyah, or intention, is a BIG deal in Islam. So before you go to sleep, set your intention to pray Fajr the next morning and it will be much easier not to throw your alarm on the other side of the room once it rings. You’ll know exactly what it’s for!

I hope it only gets easier for you to wake up for Fajr, and while you’re at it, check up on your grown ups! Sometimes they need a nudge too. Happy Fajr-filled mornings!
